Hippo
The Hippo is a self cleaning maintenance free scum removal system that effectively removes surface grease, fat and other floating debris from circular primary and humus tanks. The Hippo is installed below the tanks outlet weir level thus ensuring that grease build up is eliminated.
Each time the rotating scraper bridge approaches the Hippo, a striking ski opens the valve as it passes and the surface scum discharges from the tank. The ski can be adjusted to vary both the point at which the valve opens and for how long it remains open. The valve is usually held open until the rotating scum board has passed to enable the valve seat to be washed. The Hippo is a simple solution to the problem of scum and grease removal and is ideal for replacing existing scum collection systems with the pipe-work easily adapted to the new installation .
